Physical fitness and the rising awareness of health have become central to daily life in modern societies, shaping how communities engage with their environments and each other.

Modern sports facilities should reflect this cultural shift, reimagining it with sports of rising popularity with the intent of feeding off each other’s activities.

Defining a venue that is more than just a place for exercise, but a vibrant center for connection and well-being.

Embedded in a rising residential area in the 10th district of Vienna, the community is lacking a central place to relate to. The Site is segmented by large, former industrial sites, complexes and busy roads, resulting from a lack of attention in city planning and development.

This intervention aims to tie together a developing community by breaking down the barriers of a larger recreational area that is already established. It is a multifunctional indoor sports facility, whose main feature is an indoor full size wakeboard cable – system that allows training for waterski and wakeboarding all around the year.

Additionally, other sports such as bouldering, swimming, and skateboarding have a place in the facility as well. According to the season, the facility shifts its focus from indoor comfort to outdoor experience with openable elements in the roof.

The surrounding landscape allows views to the different activities, paths to walk through and places to rest.

By offering spaces for exercise and leisure, the adjacent natural area is further expanded and the project creates a new focal point for the surrounding community of residents and workers.
